I would like to go into a career as either an aide for a politican or a political scientist/ analyst…?
II’m a 15 year old and am considering these career paths. I was wondering how much education is required for both of them, or is most recommended. My current plan is to attend Lewis and Clark College and get a bachelor in political science. But what would work best for these careers. Should I double major in something else/ minor?

And if anyone works in these career fields and has any tips or comments on their work life. How much time does it consume? What is the pay like? If you have a family how does it affect them, is it to time consuming? How much education did you go through? Anything helpful is appreciated. Thank you!

There are not really any jobs in political science. Most of the people that work as political aides actually have law degrees.

To be a political science/analyst, you need to get a doctorate.

To get any where in poli sci you either need an advanced degree or do a dual major with something complementary like economics.

Grads with only a Poli Sci undergrad degree and nothing else, make about $35,000 a year.

A political aide will usually need at least a BA or BS degree. A political scientist will need a PhD. A good working knowledge of public relations would be helpful. I would guess that an aide would earn in the range of $40-50.000. A political scientist would probably be in the range of $70-120,000 plus any outside projects or freelance work they could do. These salaries could vary according to the area in which you live. The higher cost of living areas could boost your salary considerably to maintain the same standard of living as a less costly area in which to live.
